Contributed by Coralina R. Lemos. What do you do when someone comments that they do not think the neighbourhood you live in has a history? Well, Coralina Lemos, area resident, took her husband’s advice when he said, “if you want a book on Corktown then you will have to write it.”
“The book is written for anyone interested in increasing their knowledge of the area’s early history, and for others researching the roadmap of their family ancestry. My goal throughout this book project was to provide anyone reading it added awareness of the neighbourhood’s past between 1819 to about 1920. It was important to me that Corktown should have its own narrative like other Toronto districts.”
