Behind the scenes

Contributed by Michael Hepburn. The forsythia blossoming the first weekend in May notes the arrival of Cabbagetowns Forsythia Festival. Traditionally marking the beginning of spring in Cabbagetown. Each year the Festival has become bigger and better.

I Michael Hepburn of Hepburn Landscaping, am proud to say that I have been a sponsor of the Forsythia Festival for many many years. I am also very honoured to say that my firm has been creating Cabbagetowns most beautiful landscape projects for 20 years. It gives me great pleasure to donate to a community which continues to be supportive of my business.   I strongly urge fellow business working in Cabbagetown to support such a worthy cause.
For many including myself, initially I was not aware of just how much hard work is required behind the scenes in order to make the event such a success.  All the phone calls, texts, emails that are required in order to secure permits, food, beverages, tables, chairs, amusement items and signs and not forgetting to mention the endless hours spent in search of sponsors.

When you and your family attend the Festival and as you depart with smiles on your faces remember these great people behind the scenes are already working on the next years Festival.

I personally would like to thank all the committee members past and present for all your hard work in making the festival what It has become.   A special Thank you to Shawna King Pereira who introduced me to the inner workings of the Festival and Carolyn Jarman, who both work so hard behind the scenes to make the festival a success.  I look forward to continuing to support the festival as it evolves.
