In January, Alumnae Theatre Company’s mainstage takes on Caryl Churchills’s Top Girls. At its centre, Marlene throws a dinner party to celebrate her promotion at Top Girls Temp Agency. Her guests? Five powerful wonder women from the historical past. Marlene strives to join their ranks, and does – but at what cost?
Director Alysa Golden helms this magical yet realistic play, which brilliantly dramatizes the quest to define success and women’s struggle to achieve it. Golden’s vision highlights a connectedness between the women from history and today, as Churchill raises questions of how do women access and hold their power at home and in the workplace and how much progress have we really made?
Boasting a cast of fiery, talented women, Top Girls remains a classic, with new resonance to be found in our current social climate. A great holiday gift for the powerful women in your life! January 18 – February 2, 2018.
