When you look around Toronto, there’s a good chance that you’ll see cranes from a distance and construction that’s building new homes for our growing population. This trend will continue well into the future, we will need to recruit a new generation of tradespeople and industry professionals to meet the demands.
In 2009, Tridel recognized the industry’s long-term recruitment needs, and launched the BOLT (Building Opportunities for Life Today) Program to help connect under-resourced youth to rewarding and sustainable careers in construction.
In 2013, the BOLT Charitable Foundation was established and started raising money to provide scholarship, bursaries and skilled training programs for youth who wished to pursue a career in the construction industry but who lacked financial resources and access.
To date, BOLT has raised over 2.7 million dollars and over 248 BOLT scholarships have been awarded and over 55 apprenticeship jobs have been secured. Since 2015, 11 scholarships have been awarded to Regent Park youth. Our goal is to ensure that all Regent Park families, particularly the youth, are aware of BOLT and that they have full access to all the programs and its services.
