Contributed by Kathy Flaxman. The First Day of Spring and the very first bud poking out of the hard ground mean March can be tantalizing. St. Patrick’s Day smack in the middle guarantees some green, even if it’s only funny hats and foamy beer.
Homeowners don’t need leaves and grass to get excited, though. Serious planning gets underway as soon as the days get even an hour longer. “A lot of our clients call us at the beginning of spring to get their projects started,” Joe Rozman of Weenen General Contracting Limited notes. “It’s important to get the planning done, so work can start as soon as we can safely lean a ladder against a wall.”
The most popular type of spring projects include new windows and exterior painting which can make a home ‘pop’. “A fresh coat of paint will look beautiful and the expense won’t be through the roof,” Joe points out. “New windows will add a lot of benefit, including reduced heating/cooling costs. With the tradition of Victorian style architecture in Cabbagetown, a porch can be a terrific investment. And of course a deck plus landscaping is like adding an additional room to a home.”
Is Weenen General Contracting Limited taking it’s own advice? Yes—some work is going to be on the inside of the Company flagship offices. “We’re going to do some painting and decorating,” Joe says. “ Our wrought iron fence at the front will get painted too. We rotate the work on our building so that nothing gets neglected. When we’re done, we hope the neighbours will come and visit!”
